Greetings friends, looks like winter is fast approaching with more than a foot of fresh snow north east of us in Telluride, yet we are still able to irrigate our green pastures and enjoy the fall colors.
We have been much busier this year with tourists this fall, perhaps more folks are discovering that this is a great time to explore the region. During the past 3 days we spent our afternoons photographing these nearby places to the West of us, which remind us of the great diversity of treasures to explore in our backyard, the worlds largest outdoor museum.

Best wishes, Garry & Ming

View overlooking Valley of the Gods.

Valley of the Gods

An enormous wall of red rock stretching a distance of over 10 miles.

Beautifully etched images from 1000 years ago

Contrast of fall colors against the red rock canyons

Notice the tiny ruin blended within the huge boulders, positioned like a watch tower.

Valley of the Gods

Valley of the Gods area

See if you can spot the many ancient ruins that seem to disappear among the rocks

This unusual structure is in perfect condition, well protected from the elements for 800 plus years.

These are the petroglyphs found within the eye of what looks like an enormous skull rock, see image below.

Looks like an enormous skull, the the petroglyphs arranged perfectly within the eye.

Beautiful time of the year, with the contrast of colors.

A split level ruin site with many fascinating petroglyphs

A beautiful and colorful mix of hands which have withstood the test of time. These were once inside a closed room.

Here is another set of hands with long fingers in the same room, extremely unusual.

Nearby is another unique feature, the remains of a colored wall, notice the blue & red horizontal band with water marks that have come vertically from above.

Notice the split level, the upper part is extremely difficult to reach.

The rocks make a beautiful background with Ming’s colorful attire.

This was a wonderful find, one of the most colorful rock images we have yet to discover. Imagine this is 800 years plus!

Within this same village were numerous grinding stones, this one was an eye catcher with the unusual petroglyphs

This was once a sizable wall defending a large source of water that seeped from the sandstone into a cave.

Notice the large black and white handprints in upper left, and the lookout holes that protected the cave.

Multiple colored hands above entrance to the sacred cave of water.

This is one of the most defensible, and difficult village sites to reach. The ruin is in the upper left corner of picture.

From the opposite cliff we climbed, we were able to look directly across into the ruin.

With our telephoto I was able to zoom into the overhang, where you can see the near perfect condition of the structures.
