86.9 % have their main office in the Region Metropolitana (Santiago de Chile). There are 11 big publishing companies, 131 medium-sized publishing companies and 1,843 smaller publishing companies. The 20 publishing companies which produce the most titles include Grupo Santillana, Random House Mondadori, LOM Ediciones and Grupo Editorial Norma. In 2008, the university publishers produced 381 titles, which meant that they accounted for 9.75 % of total production.

From January to July 2008, exports were made up of 941,328 non-fiction and literature titles, 3,781,994 encyclopedias, 195,849 school textbooks (primary and middle school), 255,293 textbooks, 1,964,988 technical-scientific books and 365,095 children's books.
